The Story of Katherine's

Once upon a time, a woman was having lunch with a friend and mentioned how she loved visiting tea rooms. She told her friend it had always been a dream of hers to someday have a "cozy place" where she could serve friends, "tea and little sandwiches". Her friend just looked at her and said "so what are you waiting for"? It sounds simple but she felt the bulb in her head "light up" just then! The kids were grown, and out of the house, and her husband agreed that the time was right. In her "past lives" she had been: a teacher a full time mom, worked for Tupperware, a musician, worked in the business world, owned a party planning and balloon business. She had been looking for a job for some time but couldn’t find anything that felt right. So she began to look into the world of "Tea Rooms".

Meanwhile, before any of this happened to the women above……. Her lovely daughter had gone to college and received her business degree. However, she realized early in her life that the business world did not "feed her creative soul". She had always loved the cooking and thought about going to culinary school. So she talked it over with her wonderful husband who agreed, that she quit her job and enroll in Culinary School. She studied and worked very hard, and loved every minute of it. She graduated top of her class and began work at a restaurant near her home in Philadelphia.

Mom found the location, signed the lease, and began making lots of lists. Then, one day her daughter Tracy called. She asked, "how about I quit my job here and come and work with you?" They join together with their shared talents and interests. It’s been a lot of work, stress, with many lessons learned, but a lot of fun, excitement and we are learning more each day…………. And so, here we are at Katherine’s Tea Room and to our friends old and new, we hope you enjoy our "tea and little sandwiches".
